Junior Kindergarten Mission

Junior Kindergarten is a Young Fives program with a learning opportunity created to fit children’s growth and learning stages.
Our mission is to provide opportunities for social, emotional, and academic growth before entering Kindergarten.

This program is dependent on numbers. Please enroll early.

Age requirements:
Turn five (5) between September 2, 2024 and December 1, 2024.

JrK Offers...

  • Five all-day sessions, Monday - Friday. This is new for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Slower paced curriculum allows a child more time to develop academically, socially and emotionally. (Less stressful than kindergarten)
  • Emphasis placed on developing early literacy and math skills. (Letters, sounds, some sight words, letter formation (writing), numbers, patterns, and other math concepts.
  • More time devoted to play than in kindergarten. This helps to further social and emotional growth.
  • Skills are introduced at a slower pace. This helps build a solid understanding and reduces frustration.
  • Learning the basics (academic, emotional and social) will help a child’s self-esteem and confidence.

Benefits...

  • Allows your child to proudly move to Kindergarten with his/her peers rather than repeating Kindergarten for two years.
  • A year in Junior Kindergarten gives a child the gift of time. The time to develop and master basic skills that will help him/her become a confident, success student in the following years.
  • Remember to think about where your child is at not only today, but also where he/she wil be as a middle school, high school student and beyond. Junior Kindergarten allows a child a year to become more of a leader among his/her peers.

Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds. Examples include beginning sounds, ending sounds, and rhyming. Phonemic awareness needs to be developed before learning to read.

Visual Perception
Visual perception involves being able to distinguish foreground and background, form and shape, size, and position. Reading and writing both require mature visual perception.
